Dru Hill gets their independence again... or should I say, InDRUpendence

R&B groups.... seemingly a thing of the past. In the 90s we had everybody from Boys 2 Men, SWV, Shai, Envouge, Silk, 702, Jagged Edge, Total, 112, Destiny's Child, Jodeci... I could keep going. But for the sake of your attention span......... anyway............ Dru Hill alwayz held the highest position in my favorite groups. From back in middle school when I first heard "Tell Me" and "Sleepin in My Bed" to when they seemingly bowed out in 2002 with "I should Be" and "I Love you". Even during the Sisqo dayz at the early part of the century. (Dont front like yo ass didnt used to bang the uck fay outta "Thong Song". I remember all yall wanting to be vickie models in Mr. Toles choir class....) Anyway, for those that don't know (which I dont know why youre reading if you dont) Dru Hill ruled the latter part of the 90's. From 5 Steps (one of the few videos that made your sensitive ass shed a couple tears) to "We're not Makin Love no More", "How Deep is your Love", The "Reeses Pieces song" (These are the Times), "Wild Wild West" with Will Smith. "Big Bad Momma" ft Foxy B... I mean, they had hit after hit. Then they disappeared. Everybody went off to making solo albums, with only Sisqo having significant success. Then after he fell off, they returned a couple years later. Only to disappear again.

I personally been waiting for a Dru Hill return since 2002 (all by myself too, lol) and then I hear sometime around Christmas 2007, that they had gotten back together. I aint gon lie, I was geeked. So I checked out the video. The video had a caption that read, "Dru Hill gets back together.... only to break up again, in 10 minutes...." Omg, are you serious (Watch the video if you want to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpm7oXKJOZY ) Apparently the member that went solo (Woody, for those who dont know) that originally helped break up the group (to pursue gospel by the way) decides during the reunion...... that he isn't going to return..... AGAIN..... to the group, because he wants to continue pursuing his gospel career. This breaks out a fight (Go ahead, you know u wanna watch it now, lol. Imagine little ass Sisqo fighting, lmao)

Anyway, I was distressed, cause I got my hopes up. Then a few months later, I found out they had recruited a new member. (Some homie named Tao or something). And then about a week ago, I heard they had released their first single. Its Called "Loose" or "Get Loose". One of the two. (You can go hear and listen to it: http://www.zshare.net/audio/12942321927700f7/ )

Now personally, I like it. And Im expecting it to grow on me. Its a slow jam (something they've alwayz been good at). But not a ballad. Its got that ol' skool flavor to it a lil bit, that I miss from the late 90s. Of Course its getting some hate, but mostly from the "kidz" (read: 18 and 19yr olds, who are too young to appreciate jodeci or dru hill, who think R. Kelly is a new artist, but Trey Songz is still better... I laugh at you) but Im looking forward to whenever they release their album, which will be called "InDRUpendence Day" by the way. I'll keep those interested updated. Just look for updates in this blog. Until then, enjoy the song, and "Get Loose". WHAT YOU THINK???

I'm looking forward to it too! I bought tickets to see Dru Hill perform in September so I'm hoping they're back up to snuff. The only thing that worries me is that I saw this video of the guys:

Dru Hill Interview and they just look so obnoxious. If you're interested, Az Yet has reunited too. You can find it on the same site I linked to there.
