The Business behind Backseat Action

SoooOOO... a couple weeks ago as I was heading to work, Im sitting there listening to the new Gnarls Barkley CD for probably about the 49th time, and in the background I hear something interesting. 102.9 is playing in the background as alwayz (which is why I keep my CD player on) and I hear something famaliar. So I remove my headphones and an unfamaliar and female voice is singin, "you give me the business, you give me the business, you give me the business..." (you've heard it buy now, if not... head over to this link and take a quick listen www.myspace.com/yungberg ) so anyway, I listen a bit closer because like I said, it sounded famaliar... but not quite right. Im thinking to myself, "Remix, maybe?" Then the rapper comes in, and I cannot tell who it is. It sounds vaguely like Bow Wow, trying to utilize the auto-tune effect, which is annoying so popular these days, and the female singing sounded a little like Nivea. But I didn't know, and nobody else seemed to know either when I asked them.

Let's rewind about a year. Its June 5th, 2007. "Umbrella" is blowing up the radio right now, and so is "Buy U a Drank". And I'm already a big Rihanna fan, so I head down to Best Buy (yes, I did used to work there, and that's probably one of the few places you know me from, anyway...) to go buy her CD. And looking at the ad, I also see the T-pain had released the same day. Now I was never a big "Sprung" or "Stripper" fan of the Rappa Ternt Sanga, but homie was taking over 07 at the time, and "Buy U a Drank" was my joint, so I decide to cop both CDs. It'll be something for the ladies anyway. I listen to the CD a bit.... and it was aight. It was bangin. But not something I would bang on a regular basis. But there were some standout songs definitely. And during one "nighttime liason" after the club... I recall a particular song playing in the background for a looonnnggg period of time on repeat. Only to get tired of the song after I realized it was playing, and change it to the next song (and I'm sure yall know that song, called "Put it down". I'll post it at the end of the blog).

Fast Forward back to today. So after hearing that song apparently called, "The Business". I immediately think, "Aint this T-Pain? But it don't sound like him rappin at all. And I have no idea who that girl is. And why would he make a remix to a song off an old album, when his new one is finna come out." In the next few weeks, the song gets even more popular. People tell me, "This is yung berg, but I dont know who the girl is." Popping up on peoples myspace pages, and people singing it everywhere. So I go home and break out my T-Pain CD, only to have confirmed what I thought. I get to the song, "Backseat Action ft Shawnna", (take a listen http://share.ovi.com/media/mikeg.public/mikeg.10020 ) and the first thing T-pain sings is, "I'm bout to pull over, and give you the business..." YUNG BERG IS A FUCKIN BITER. I mean, oh my gawd, who BLATANTLY jacks somebodies elses song, and uses it like its an original.

Now I've never liked Yung Bird... I mean Berg. I remember getting my hair braided one morning and seeing his video for the first time. That "Sexxy lady" song. I thought "WACK" immediately. But it caught on. The ladies liked it... and that's more important when it comes to selling records today. Then I saw homie perform last year at the Russ Parr thing they do every year downtown. Homie came out like he was straight "gangster" (read: wankster) which some wack song nobody knew with his 5'5ft self (one of my female homies almost snatched his chain, lmao). Then he disappeared, only to reappear with Brandy's little Brother, with anutha "SEXXY" song (read: diva). The ladies liked that too. But then homie found himself catching beefs with everybody he can in the game, after talking to 50 (Didn't I just mention he was a diva). Between beefing with Bow Wow (how ironic) and Brisco and Flo-Rida (You know Brisco, everybody got "The Carter 3") and having his album pushed back 12 times, he records "The Business"... another "sexxy" song if you ask me. But what really disgusted me was the lack of originality in the song. First off was the beyond obvious jacking of the chorus from T-Pain. Then two was the fact that I still have no idea what Yung Berg actually sounds like. This time around, he sounds like Bow Wow... like I mentioned above. Who he just got done calling out a couple months ago. Then three... how many people are gonna blatantly use the auto-tune effect when just a year or so ago, the very same people were calling T-Pain a gimmick. And now that homie is THE KING of the radio, everyone from Snoop, to 50, Tony Yayo, Weezy... just to name a few are using the same effect.

So as I went home this morning, noticing everybody was totally oblivious, to this obvious plunder of style, I thought I'd tell you about it. And what makes at even worse, is that this new song has absolutely nothing on the original. Yung Berg can't even go by the, "You made at a hot line, I made it a hot song" creed. ITS TRASH!!! (Go back, listen to both, you tell me) I have no respect for yung turd, and will continue to completely ignore this song as though it doesnt exist (unless I'm in the club, hittin it on one of these "Don Imuses" lmao.) Or maybe Im just Hatin... WHAT U THINK??

I COMPLETELY agree! Berg is wack...he knows it, we know it..lets just say its a known fact. However I did KINDA like that "Sexy Lady" song..it was catchy. But I REALLY hope his label gives him "the business" and drops his ass lol.
