Nowadayz, I dont really think titles mean anything. They've lost their luster. Personally, if you ask me----my favorite rapper is Nas....for those who don't know. But as far as who I think the best rapper alive is... omg, there's no question, it's Jay-Z. But let's not start an arguement here. I know, I know... Lil Wayne/Wayne/Weezy/T-Wayne/Young Money..... WHATEVER!! That's not the point right now. Let's look at this from another perspectvie. All my 80's babies.... where you at. Let's take it back. When you were in school.... and I mean IN SCHOOL. Back at your elementary/middle school/high school (C-DUB!!!!! Sorry, had to throw that in there) What were you listening to: Ice Cube, NWA, 2pac, Wu-tang (all 79 of them), Bone Thugs, Puffy (dont lie, yo azz wanted a shiny suit) Ma$e, Jay-z, Fugees, Master P/No Limit, Scarface, Biggie, Nas.... you get the point. I missed a lot of people, but the fact is you remember all the people for the greatness they were/are. You had variety on who you could call your favorite rapper. They respected the craft, went in hard with their souls. You still got they old tapes (come on, yall had them tapes, next to your old CrazySexyCool wit the tape coming out that it won't play no more) that was so good, you listened to them shits for weeks/months, and it didn't get old... and it wasnt your ringtone. And you couldn't wait to call 222-9292 (U.92, come on yall) to see if they would play it. The point is, you were excited about a particualr person... you know they were coming with that shit. Fast Forward to today. Who's your favorite rapper???? Like I said, Lil wayne (and maybe T.I.). Now Im not hatin, I like Weezy. Aint been a career long fan, but I got the Carter trilogy, and I got maadd respect for homie. The problem is... who else is your favorite rapper. Back then you had a lot of choices. But the shit is so bad today, you look for ONE person. Rap at its height (IMO, the mid to late 90's) everybody went Platinum, if you put out something hott. But today, everybody got the BEST single... then that nigga disappear. Let's give a short list: Mimz, Rich Boy, 2Pistols, Hot Stylez, D4L, Shawty Lo, Franchize Boys, J-Kwon...... hell, I cant remember most of these people names... THEY NOBODIES. But they all rapped your favorite song at one point.... and now who are they??? Old erased ringtones... old DJDurl mixtapes you cant find, or you let somebody borrow and they never gave it back. What happened to when homies like Mystikal, or DMX, or Mia X, or Outkast, etc... was finna release an album, and EVERYBODY was talking about it months before it came out??? But now, if you disappear from the public for more than 3 months... everybody forgot about you. You must be dead... or wack... or something. You must have fallen off. Thats why I got so much respect for Jay though. Since 96', he came in to prove that he was going to be the best ever. Releasing the Classic Reasonable Doubt, he didnt stop just cause he had something hot on his handz. He hit you up in 97', then 98', then 99', and every year there after... even into retirement, he wouldn't let his name fall into obscurity. From "Aint no Nigga" to "Blue Magic", aint no nigga hit us with magic so routinely, it seemed effortless. So shout out to Young Carter, go harder, go further go farther, thats why you came, if not, then why bother. Bring some rap magic back to this game, cuz frankly, Im bored as fuck.
What you think????
